That's exactly why the best questions aren't the basic getting-to-know-you kind. They're the ones that dig into the shared stuff: the inside jokes, the version of you they remember from five years ago, the details they swear they know until you test them.

There's also a quiet bonus. Friendships rarely get the kind of attention relationships do. Nobody plans a date night with their best friend just to talk about the friendship itself. A handful of good questions is an easy way to do that without making it weird, and you'll probably hear a compliment you didn't know they were holding onto.

Time to find out who has actually been paying attention. Write your own answers down first so nobody can change the story afterwards.

• What's my drive thru order when I'm having a bad day, sauce included?
• Which celebrity would make me lose my mind if I spotted them at an airport?
• What's the one thing I forget every single time we travel?
• What's my phone wallpaper right now, no peeking?

Best friend quiz questions: how to score it

Score one point per right answer and a half point for anything close. If they get all four, they've earned the title. If they miss the wallpaper, they owe you a coffee. Funny questions to ask your best friend

Funny questions to ask your best friend work best when the answer is a little bit of an insult and a lot of a compliment. Go for the ones that start a debate.

• Which of us would last longer on a reality dating show, and what gets the other one kicked off?
• If our friendship had a mascot, what animal is it and what's its name?
• Which voice note from me would get us both kicked out of the group chat if it leaked?
• If you had to describe me using only kitchen appliances, which ones are you picking?

Deep questions to ask your best friend about your friendship

Deep doesn't have to mean heavy. These are about your history together, the moments that made you best friends in the first place. They tend to come up naturally late at night, so save them for the end of the evening.

• What's the first memory of us that you'd call "the moment" we became friends?
• Who started our longest running joke, and do you remember the exact words?
• Which completely ordinary place, like a parking lot or a kitchen floor, feels like ours now?

How to make it fun, not a survey

A few habits keep best friend questions from feeling like a form you're filling in:

• One at a time. Ask, listen, laugh, then ask the next one. Rushing kills the story.
• Answer it yourself. Your version of "the moment" might be totally different from theirs, and that's the good part.
• Follow the tangent. If a question turns into a twenty minute story about a summer job, let it. That's the point.
• Bring it to the group. Most of these also work with three or four friends, as long as everyone gets a turn.
