Truth or dare questions for friends, couples and text
The best truth or dare questions take five seconds to answer and five minutes to recover from. Here is a small, sharp set for friends, couples and the group chat, with dares nobody needs to regret.

Good truth or dare questions are short and a little embarrassing: a truth that gets a story in ten seconds, a dare that is safe and over in a minute. Mix funny ones for friends, text ones and sweet ones for couples. Start with these 16; the full decks are in the capybara cards app.
Truth or dare questions only work when they're fast. Nobody wants to sit in silence while someone writes an essay about their feelings. The best truth gets a story out of someone before they can think of a lie, and the best dare is over in sixty seconds and replayed for six months.
So this list keeps it quick. Every truth has a clear, specific answer. Every dare is clean, safe and something you can do in a living room, a dorm or over FaceTime. Nothing that costs money, breaks anything or ends up on someone's permanent record.
A few house rules before you start: everyone gets one pass, nobody films without asking, and the person who picks dare chooses the next player. That last one keeps the game moving and stops one person from getting picked on all night.
Truth or dare questions
The all-rounders. These work with any group, any age over eighteen, any level of tired.
- Truth: Which app on your phone would you delete right now if someone was about to scroll through it?
- Truth: What's the most expensive thing you ever bought and then never used, not even once?
- Dare: Speak in a sports commentator voice describing everything the player on your left does for the next two rounds.
- Dare: Let the group pick a contact, then send them the single word "pineapple" with no explanation.
More of these are in the Pass the Phone deck in the app. 90 more cards are in the Pass the Phone deck.

Truth or dare questions over text
Texting changes the game. You can't see their face, so the truths need to be the kind you answer in one message and the dares need proof: a screenshot, a voice note, a photo. Send one, wait, and don't let them pick truth five times in a row.
- Truth: What's the last thing you searched that you would never say out loud?
- Truth: What's the most chaotic voice memo still sitting on your phone right now?
- Dare: Send a voice note singing the chorus of the last song you listened to, no skipping the high note.
- Dare: Change your profile picture to a photo of a vegetable for one hour and send a screenshot.
Truth or dare questions over text flirty
If the chat is with someone you like, keep the same rules but tilt the truths a little. Ask which of your texts they reread, or dare them to send the first emoji that describes you. Short, sweet and still easy to dodge if they want to.

Truth or dare questions for friends
Friends are the hardest audience, because they already know half your secrets and want the other half. These lean on shared history, group chats and the stuff that happened at that one party nobody talks about.
- Truth: Which friend in this room would you trust to pick your outfit for a job interview, and which one never?
- Truth: What's one thing you told the group chat that was only about 60 percent true?
- Dare: Do your best impression of the friend to your right ordering at a drive through.
- Dare: Read your last three sent messages out loud in a dramatic movie trailer voice.
There's no shame in going around the circle twice. The second answer is usually the honest one.
More of these are in the For Best Friends deck in the app. 147 more cards are in the For Best Friends deck.
Truth or dare questions for couples
With a partner, truth or dare turns into flirting with a scoreboard. Keep the truths light and specific, and keep the dares cute rather than risky. If you want a full night of it, we wrote a separate guide to truth or dare for couples.
- Truth: What did you actually think of my outfit the first time we met, in five words or less?
- Truth: Which of my habits do you copy without realizing it?
- Dare: Recreate our first photo together using whatever is in this room as props.
- Dare: Give me a full guided tour of the fridge like you're a museum curator.
Truth or dare questions for crush
Playing with a crush? Stick to truths about favorites and firsts, and dares that make you both laugh instead of blush too hard. The goal is a reason to keep talking tomorrow. For a gentler start, try these questions to ask your crush.

How to keep truth or dare questions funny
A few things separate a great round from a dead one:
- Speed over depth. If a truth needs a long pause, swap it for an easier one. Momentum is everything.
- Dares under a minute. Long dares stall the whole game. Short ones keep everyone watching.
- Let the group vote on chickens. If someone refuses a dare, the room picks their replacement truth. It's fair and much funnier.
- Rotate who reads. The person reading the card gets to do the voice, which is half the fun.
Keep the dares cheap, legal and reversible. Nothing involving cars, heights, food allergies, strangers in public or anyone's real job. Funny always beats dangerous, and the clip of someone narrating the fridge gets just as many replays as anything risky.
This page is just a taste
You just read 16 cards. The real game is bigger, and it lives in the app:
- Pass the Phone has 90 cards built for groups, one phone going around the circle.
- Confessions has 187 cards for the truths people swear they never said.
- For Best Friends has 147 cards that lean on shared history and inside jokes.
Open the app, pick a deck, tap once for the next card and hand the phone to whoever is next. Nobody has to think up the next truth, nobody sees what's coming, and nobody can secretly skip the embarrassing ones. It works at a sleepover, on a road trip or over FaceTime with the friend who moved away.
When the list on this page runs out, that's your cue. The good cards are always the ones you haven't read yet.
Quick answers
What are good truth or dare questions?
Good truth or dare questions are short, specific and a little embarrassing, never cruel. A truth should get a story in under ten seconds, and a dare should be funny to watch and safe to do in a living room.
What are good truth or dare questions over text?
Pick truths that can be answered in one message and dares that end in a screenshot, a voice note or a photo. Send one at a time so the other person cannot skip ahead.
How do you keep truth or dare fun and not awkward?
Agree on one pass per person before you start, keep dares legal, cheap and reversible, and stop any round that stops being funny. The game works because everyone feels safe enough to be silly.
